TCS NQT 2026 - Coding Round + Interview Roadmap (Free AI Mock Drill Inside)

4 Jul 2026· 8 min read

TCS NQT is one of the largest volume off-campus drives in India and the fastest route from college into a Digital or Ninja track role. If you are targeting the July 2026 window, the clock is running — registration closes 19 July and the exam opens 30 July.

TCS NQT 2026 at a glance

The TCS National Qualifier Test is a single online test that determines both your score and your track. A high NQT score qualifies you for the Digital band (higher package, more technical work); a lower qualifying score lands you in the Ninja band. Eligibility: 60 percent aggregate throughout (Class 10, 12, and degree), no active backlogs, 2025 or 2026 passout. The test covers Numerical Ability, Verbal Ability, Reasoning Ability, and a Coding section. Registration closes 19 July; the exam window begins 30 July.

The coding round, section by section

The NQT coding section typically contains two problems to solve in 60 minutes, in C, C++, Java, Python or C#. The problems are easy to medium difficulty — think array manipulation, string processing, basic recursion. What separates scorers here is not brilliance but execution under time pressure: reading the problem fully before touching the keyboard, writing runnable code rather than pseudocode, and testing against the visible test cases before submitting. Placd's in-browser coding judge at placd.in/companies/tcs lets you practice on TCS-style problems with the same time constraints and language options so the real exam environment feels familiar. If you can consistently solve two easy problems in 30 minutes with no compile errors, you are Digital-track ready.

Aptitude and verbal

Aptitude and verbal are the most under-prepped sections among CS students who assume coding will carry them. Numerical Ability covers percentage, ratio, time-speed-distance, profit-loss, and simple data interpretation — none of it is hard but all of it requires quant shortcuts to beat the timer. Verbal Ability tests reading comprehension, sentence completion and grammar. Two weeks of daily 20-minute timed sets (one aptitude, one verbal) is the minimum; three weeks is comfortable. Use the Service Company Fast-Track roadmap at placd.in/roadmaps for a paced schedule that maps directly to NQT sections.

What the interview round after NQT actually tests

Candidates who clear the NQT move to a Technical Interview and an HR round. The Technical Interview in 2025-26 cycles has increasingly probed AI-assisted work: interviewers ask you to explain code you wrote, describe how you would use an LLM in a project, and discuss the trade-offs of your design choices. Communication clarity is scored as much as technical depth; a slow but well-explained answer outperforms a fast but muddled one. Practice with Placd's AI mock interview at placd.in/products/mock-interview, which gives you scored feedback on both technical content and answer structure before you face the real panel.

A 3-week prep plan mapped to the 19 Jul / 30 Jul dates

Week 1 (now through 13 Jul) — aptitude and CS core. Daily: one aptitude set of 25 questions in 20 minutes, one verbal set of 20 questions in 15 minutes. Review OS and DBMS basics for the Technical Interview. Week 2 (14-20 Jul, registration deadline 19 Jul) — coding patterns with a real judge. Solve two TCS-style problems daily on Placd's in-browser judge. Focus on arrays, strings, and basic dynamic programming. Register for the NQT by 19 July if you have not already. Week 3 (21-30 Jul, exam on 30 Jul) — timed full mocks and interview reps. On alternate days, run a full timed NQT mock covering all sections and a graded AI interview session. Use the remaining days to review weak sections flagged by your mock scores.

FAQs

Is TCS NQT hard for freshers? The difficulty is moderate if you prepare all three sections. Most candidates fail on aptitude or verbal, not coding — because they only prep coding. Balanced preparation beats specialist preparation here.

How many rounds are there after NQT? After the NQT you typically go through a Technical Interview (1 round) and an HR round. Some Digital track offers include a second technical round. The total process from NQT to offer letter takes 4 to 8 weeks.

Can I retake TCS NQT? TCS allows one attempt per NQT cycle. If you miss the July window you can attempt the next cycle, and a strong score is valid for one year so it works across multiple hiring seasons.

What is a good NQT score? Scores above 60 percent of the test benchmark typically qualify for the Ninja track; Digital track requires a higher benchmark (exact cutoffs vary by year and region). Focus on maximising your coding and aptitude sections — they carry the most weight.
